You Have Worth
You are precious and valuable, yes you! Each person must realize that being created in the image of God gives us worth. You are God’s crowning work of creation this gives you worth. May people cannot accept that they have any real worth. I think this is the reason we chase after the things of the world, why there is a disease called “keeping up with the Jones.” I’m not sure if anyone else has ever called “keeping up with the Jones” a disease but I believe it is because it leads to unhealthy living. We have come to believe that our worth comes from the things of the world: money, power, possessions, pleasures, and the list can go on. Nothing wrong with any of this in and of itself, however, we become very unhealthy and fragile when these things express our value. There is also the danger of judging someone else’s value on this same criterion. I guess you can say that this would make us “fool’s gold”.
Our value is not based on our weaknesses, flaws, past or present sin, past or present shortcomings. Value comes from our CREATOR. Every single person has value in the mind of the CREATOR. Jan James, in the Power of Brief Counseling, says it perfectly. “All people- whatever their race, nationality, gender, social rank, employment, sexual orientation, appearance intelligence, beliefs, attitude, morality, skill, knowledge, health, wealth, or any other characteristic are infinitely valued children of God. There is no exception!”
Our value is not who we created ourselves to be but the potential of who we can become in Christ. We cannot love someone we do not value. When God tells us He loves us unconditionally He is saying you, yes you, have infinite value in His eyes. When I accept that I have value in the eyes of God who can I not value. I am going to say it again; we cannot love someone we do not value.
